White escallonia

An evergreen shrub native to C and S Chile, growing to 4 m. It has a profusion of small, star-like pure white flowers on dense, short racemes that cluster together to form large panicles up to 30 cm long.

Gum tree

A genus of over 700 species of fast-growing, evergreen trees and shrubs native primarily to Australia. They have aromatic, oil-rich leaves, peeling bark, and are cultivated globally for timber, ornamental landscaping, and therapeutic essential oils. There are many exampes at Logan, not all were accessible enough to read the labels, as here.

Tasmanian Snow Gum

A.k.a. Mount Wellington Peppermint, is an extremely hardy, evergreen tree or shrub native to the subalpine regions of Tasmania, growing to 18 m. It has smooth, peeling bark. Juvenile leaves are rounded to heart-shaped and often bluish-green. Adult leaves are lance-shaped, grey-green, and highly aromatic, emitting a strong peppermint fragrance when crushed.

Snow Gum

A.k.a. White Sallee, Cabbage Gum, Weeping Gum or Ghost Gum. A spreading tree between 10 to 30 m tall, with gnarled and twisted trunk. The leaves are thick, leathery, and lance-shaped to sickle-shaped. They mature into a uniform, glossy blue-green or grey-green on both sides and emit a faint, fresh, minty aroma when crushed. In spring and summer, it produces clusters of 7 to 15 small, white to cream flowers, followed by small, cup-shaped to pear-shaped woody capsules.

It produces glossy foliage and abundant, fragrant white-to-pink, 4 petalled rose-like blossoms. These are followed by leathery, dry woody capsules that mature in the autumn. It is one of the most vital nectar sources in Australia, supporting a renowned commercial industry that produces highly prized, distinctively flavoured Leatherwood honey.
